More Oregon Guardsmen are on their home after a yearlong tour in Afghanistan.

A plane carrying 140 soldiers from the 41st Brigade Combat Team, Oregon Army National Guard, and their commander Brig. Gen. Douglas Pritt, are scheduled to arrive at Portland Air National Guard Base about 4 p.m. Saturday. A second flight with 112 soldiers are scheduled to land about 6 a.m. Sunday.

Soon after landing, the soldiers will be reunited with family and friends at the Jackson Armory near the airport.

The 41st Brigade helped train the Afghan army and police force, and they helped build schools and clinics and provide medical care to civilians. Its service marked the largest wartime deployment of Oregon Army National Guardsmen since World War II.

The troops will be officially welcomed Sunday at a ceremony at the Oregon National Guard's Salem Armory Auditorium, 2310 17th St. N.E., at 11:30 a.m. Gov. Ted Kulongoski and U.S. Rep. Darlene Hooley will attend.
